About
Steve Hopkins
Engineer. Designer. The one person you call.
[About bio TBC — Steve to supply. Draft below to edit.]
I trained as an engineer, not a salesman. A Masters in General Engineering at Durham taught me to solve problems from first principles — to ask why before how. Since then I’ve worked across structural, fabrication and product design, and spent years designing bespoke interiors in clients’ own homes.
That last part matters most. Sitting at someone’s kitchen table, you learn that a home isn’t a set of drawings — it’s how the morning light falls, where the post lands, how the stair feels underfoot. The engineering has to serve that, not the other way round.
Will & Way is how I bring it together: a home designed around you, every detail thought about, and one person carrying the problem from first sketch to final key.
“Where there’s a will, there’s a way.”
Credentials
Why engineering matters in a home.
Masters in General Engineering
Durham University. Structures, materials, thermodynamics and design — the fundamentals behind every good building.
Structural, fabrication and product design
Knowing how things are made means designing things that can be built — properly, and without nasty surprises on site.
Full 3D design in SolidWorks
Your home modelled in three dimensions, so clashes are found on screen and you can walk through it before it exists.
Bespoke interiors
Years designing in clients’ homes: joinery, staircases, kitchens, the details you touch every day.
Will & Way provides home design and technical direction. Where a project needs it, we work with a chartered structural engineer and other specialists, coordinated as part of one design.
